Maia Hirasawa was born in 1980 outside Stockholm, Sweden where she grew up with her Swedish mother and her Japanese father, along with the rest of her big family.  In 2007, she released her debut album “Though, I’m just me…”, which marked the beginning of a very intense time for Maia Hirasawa.  The album went gold in Sweden and stayed at #1 on iTunes for two weeks, which lead to some serious touring.  In January 2008 she was awarded the “Best Newcomer” prize at the P3 Guld National Radio Awards.

In 2010, she decided to spend a year in Sendai.  Originally it was for holidays, but soon she started writing songs again, including “It Doesn’t Stop” for Kao Essential advertising.  By the end of the year, her charismatic voice attracted people throughout Japan.

In January 2011, Maia released a Japan special album “maia hirasawa”, in which she had sung in English, Japanese and Swedish.  In March 2011, she flew back to Sweden.  Just a few weeks before, she has written a song “Boom!” for JR Kyushu advertising, which went off the air due to the Tohoku Earthquake.  The commercial, however, was uploaded on YouTube, and gained over 2 million access.  Many people were encouraged by Maia’s song and “Boom!” eventually got huge media exposure.

In 2013, “What I Saw”, Maia’s first full studio album in 4 years, was released in both Sweden and Japan.  Later that year, she toured Tokyo, Osaka and Sendai in support of the album.  This was followed by a compilation album “The Japan Collection”, which contains various songs she has created especially for Japan.

In 2016, Maia released “Beautiful And Ugly”, in which she had again sung in English, Swedish and Japanese.

Maia constantly performs in music festivals, such as GREENROOM FESTIVAL (2017) and ARABAKI ROCK FESTIVAL (2018 & 2019).

Her latest release is a digital EP “Better” (2019).
